Installation, 43 rue Principale, Bedford, Québec The scale models used in this installation (1:87 scale) demonstrate the enormous size of the proposed wind towers in relation to churches, houses and people. Do these gigantic industrial wind turbines belong in the Eastern Townships landscape near villages, homes and farm buildings? Click image to expand. 7:30 pm, Tues., 23 Mar., 2010. George Perron Center, 14 rue Philippe Côte, Bedford. (Near the railway tracks.) INDUSTRIAL WIND TURBINES AND THEIR ADVERSE HEALTH EFFECTS A discussion and slide show about the negative health effects associated with industrial wind farms, by CARMEN KROGH, BScPharm. Centre Communautaire Georges-Perron, 14, rue Phillipe Côte, Bedford. All are welcome. Entry is free. Translation will be provided. Please tell your friends about this important event, print this poster and pass it around! BEDFORD, 2010/01/25 Less than two years after a large industrial wind farm proposal was rejected by Hydro Quebec, some land owners and elected officials in the Stanbridge Station / Pike River / Canton de Bedford region are trying to revive the project. Discussions have been held with corporate energy developer Groupe S.M. International about submitting a proposal for a smaller, so-called "community" project on May 19, 2010. It is time to revisit the 2007-2008 website that documented local citizens' objections to the first wind project. The new proposal may be smaller but it raises exactly the same issues (see archived web page below): * Should we destroy our beautiful Eastern Townships mix of villages and farms by creating an industrial zone dominated by 40-storey turbines? * Do we want to live in a rural wind-tower wasteland like Ellenburg, NY, just so that Hydro-Quebec can export more power to Vermont? Everything below this line is part of the 2007-2008 archive. The deadline for submission of wind-power projects to Hydro-Quebec was Sept 18, 2007. More than 60 projects were received and reviewed by the power utility. THE PIKE RIVER AND HENRYVILLE PROJECTS WERE NOT AMONG THOSE SELECTED TODAY! SEE THE CHART OF PROJECTS SELECTED BY HYDRO-QUEBEC: http://www.hydroquebec.com/4d_includes/depdoc/cpe/fr/2000MW_final.pdf http://www.hydroquebec.com/4d_includes/depdoc/cpe/fr/Tableau_Repartition_v4.pdf This website is concerned with the Pike River project near Bedford, Quebec. Our objection to the project can be summed up in the one phrase that decorates our T-shirts: "NO" to industrial wind plants near our homes and villages! We invite you to read our information and statements about wind energy, and review the letters, articlses, and project documents that are published on this website. It is clear that the Pike River site is spectacularly inappropriate for this kind of industrial power facility. Not particularly windy, it is a farming community on the edge of the new Eastern Townships Wine Route, with villages that date from the early 19th century, with beautiful views of the mountains of Vermont and Quebec, and with some of the most fertile and well-tended agricultural fields in the province. Quebec has millions of acres of empty crown land which could be used for wind power--why should we turn our beautiful and historic Eastern Townships communities into industrial power plants, with dozens of 45-storey wind skscrapers destroying the skyline?

In terms of environmental and aesthetic impact, this is the most
massive and radical engineering project ever proposed for the
Eastern Townships countryside. Everyone should have an opinion on
such a enormous and permanent change to our region, our community, our economy, our farm landscape and our skyline.
Come to the big final meeting at the MRC in Cowansville on August 21, 2007. Attend your monthly town council meeting (1st Monday evening of the month) and bring up this issue. Contact your mayor, town councillors, MNA and other local political leaders and demand that they "do their homework" and take a public stand on this project now. That's what we pay them for! We want to publish your comments and opinions on this issue. Please send your "Letter to the Editor" to eoliennesinfos@yahoo.ca.
